New developments have taken place in the areas of reinforced concrete technology and earthquake engineering since the publishing previous edition of this book. New approaches have emerged as a result of research and observations made after recent earthquakes. Most of these developments and the new approaches have been incorporated in the new editions of Turkish reinforced concrete codes, i.e. TS-500 2000 revision and Turkish Seismic Code 1998 revision. These changes have been incorporated in the revised edition of the book. Extensive experimental research at METU and experience gained by the authors after the six major earthquakes in Turkey during the last decade have been used in the revision of the book.
