Bilge Karasu in Translation: Tracing the Steps of a Translator in the Hermeneutic Cycle

As a field of scholarly research, translation studies offer rich grounds for inquiries. Within this framework, efforts have been devoted to reach several theories in order to explain the practice of translation. The main issues regarding the history of acceptability of translation may be listed as equivalence, faithfulness, the role of culture in translation process, ideological considerations, translatability, systems’ approaches, the role of the translator, and the new developments of audiovisual translation.

According to Holmes’s map, translation studies have been divided into two main branches, as ‘Pure’ and ‘Applied’. Pure Translation Studies is also divided into two subcategories as theoretical and descriptive studies. Under descriptive studies, product-oriented, process-oriented and function-oriented studies might be listed.
